Proof of residency — what McKinney ISD accepts
You do not need the appraisal district to show your name on the property to register. MISD accepts any of these:
- A current utility bill (gas, water, or electric) in your name
- A signed home purchase contract showing the closing date, or your closing documents
- A signed lease
This is the question that trips up the most new families. You can register before the builder-to-you ownership change posts at Collin CAD — your closing paperwork or a current utility bill is enough.
Timing & tuition
- Register as soon as you have one of the residency documents above.
If your closing date falls after the school year has already started, MISD may charge tuition until you close (Board Policy FDA-LOCAL). Confirm with the campus.

- The district office is helpful and quick — neighbors consistently report a friendly, smooth registration experience.
- For grade-specific questions (electives, placement, ESL), call the assigned campus directly. The right campus depends on your exact address — check the MISD attendance-zone lookup or ask in the Telegram group.
